Oil from the berries and seeds of the sea buckthorn plant contain a unique composition of fatty acids uncommon to the plant kingdom. It is a rich source of Omega 7 fatty acids, namely palmitoleic (20-40% of total fatty acid content) and cis-vaccenic acids. Omega 7 fatty acids play a crucial role in maintaining the health of skin and mucous membranes. They modulate inflammation, combat oxidative stress and promote fluidity of cellular membranes. Given that mucous membranes line the digestive, respiratory and urogenital tracts, in addition to its traditional use as a skin repair and restorative, sea buckthorn has multiple clinical applications.
