Magnesium Malate 120c is available by Pharmax.
Features & benefits
? Magnesium is required for proper bone health - 60% of our magnesium intake is used for bone building
? Every ATP-molecule is stabilized by magnesium, making this mineral essential for every energy-demanding process in the body and may therefore benefit individuals with fatigue
? Magnesium deficiency is common in diabetics. Deficiency may contribute to the onset of the disease and its associated complications
? Magnesium has been shown to benefit a wide variety of heart related disorders such as arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, angina, intermittent Claudication and hypertension.
? Magnesium malate is a bioavailable source of magnesium
? Suitable for vegetarians
In the industrialized world, the mineral magnesium is often depleted from food due to modern processing and refining techniques and magnesium deficiency is now considered the most common nutritional problem.
Because magnesium is involved in many major metabolic reactions, a deficiency can have major implications for health. The importance of magnesium can be recognized by the fact that it is required for at least 300 essential metabolic reactions in the body, ranging from generation of ATP, synthesis of glutathione at various points in the metabolism of lipids and amino acids, and also in the replication of RNA and DNA. Magnesium is a major component of bone and is also involved in immune regulation, temperature regulation, growth and wound healing, and plays a pivotal role in both muscle relaxation and contraction. It is the most abundant divalent cation in soft tissue.
Approximately 200mg of magnesium is lost in the feces and 100mg in the urine, every day. More is lost in sweat. Hence there is a requirement for a minimum of 300 ? 400mg per day to prevent depletion. Recent data indicates that average female intake of magnesium in the USA is approximately 190mg per day, and for males is 280mg (Shils et al, 2000). This means that the average intake of magnesium is below the threshold for adequacy and most of the population is probably in a state of depletion. Apart from inadequate intake, depletion can be caused or exacerbated by GI tract disorders, renal disorders, alcoholism, diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), hypertension and cardiac arrhythmia.
It follows then, that magnesium is indicated in both prevention and improvement in each of these clinical situations. The number one cause of death in America is heart disease and magnesium is considered one of the most important supplements for heart related diseases (Rasmussen et al, 1986; Woods et al, 1992)
Magnesium has been found to consistently lower the severity of allergy, notably asthma. Allergic individuals should therefore ensure that their magnesium intake is sufficient.
