There is now increasing recognition of the critical importance of the correct development of the normal flora in the neonatal human.
From having a sterile G.I. tract at birth, the neonate acquires microbial flora from the first day of life, and this flora is then responsible for a major part of the development of the entire infant immune system. It is now acknowledged that imbalances in the flora of the neonate may significantly increase the risk of childhood allergy and susceptibility to infectious disease. Consequently, it is now seen as imperative that the infant has a competant composition of microflora from the first day of life and that this can be achieved by supplementation with probiotic organisms daily from birth.
HLC Neonate has been developed specifically for the child up to 12 months of age. It contains the HLC strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus together with Lactobacillus paracasei which appears to be equally important in establishing the Lactobacillus dominance of the upper intestine. HLC Neonate also contains Bifidobacterium infantis, which, as its name suggests is the strain of Bifidobacterium most suited to the new born infant. L. acidophilus and L. paracasei will target and stimulate the mucosal immune system in the upper part of the G.I. tract and the B. infantis will stimulate the immune system and become established in the lower gut.
THE PHARMAX SOUTH WALES ALLERGY TRIAL HLC
Neonate is currently being used in the largest probiotic intervention trial ever carried out on human neonates. This trial, involving 3000 babies from birth to six months, will prove how effectively HLC Neonate can reduce the incidence of allergy in children. Allergy now effects 1 in 5 children and allergy treatment accounts for about 10% of all prescriptions. The HLC Neonate trial, entirely funded by Pharmax, may well become the definitive trial in childhood allergy prevention.
HLC Neonate is in a very concentrated form so that only 100mg is required to give a full dosage of 3 billion HLC organisms. The only carrier is lactose, which is milk sugar and is assimilable by all infants. The product can be administered to the infant in formula milk, expressed breast milk, or by simply allowing the child to suckle powder from a finger or knuckle that has been dipped into the product.
Typically, per 33mg
Total count 1 billion viable cells
33mg/1 billion viable cells (approximately one pinch of powder, or 1/16th tsp) taken 3 times a day. Tip the recommended dose from the bottle. This can then be suckled by the infant, from a clean finger, or can be added to expressed or formula milk. Do not return unused powder to the bottle.
None known if recommended intake is followed.
Keep out of reach of children.
